This is going to be good!!!
This is going to be good!!!
Looks very heavy on the effects… but anything is better than nothing. I look forward to see it :-)
EDIT: Now I have also seen this kind of “Making of” and does feel more positive – the FX seems to be fantastic! I report back as soon as I have seen the full movie :-)
If we are lucky a movie with the same name will hit us in 2013. I really look forward to this movie as 3 scenarios in my Normandy project are based on same events as in this movie – the battle around Le Fiére Bridge. It was while researching this scenarios I stumbled onto the movie. Watch the teaser here:
What a lovely surprise… Guess if I was happy when I heard about this movie!
A while ago I wrote about really shitty war movies (link) in the hope to warn people from buying them.
Now I want to write part two of this post telling about low budget war movies that is OK. I’m sorry to say that there are not as many good ones as there are bad ones… only two at the moment.

Saints and Soldiers
This movie based on true events tells a story from the Battle of Bulge where 4 US soldiers survive the Malmedy Massacre and try to get away from the germans, fighting their way back to the US frontline. No big story, no big effects, no big actors – but just a movie that is very entertaining. German soldiers speak german, belgian people speak french and so on. If interested in WWII – this movie is a must.

When Trumpets Fade
This movie actually takes place just a couple of days before the Ardennes Offensive opens up – at the Hürtgen-Forrest in Germany. This goes a little bit further and are using more effects and dramatic action than Saints and Soldiers. There is also bigger sets and more movie props, and tanks that almost look like real Panzer 4’s. Sadly this movie also have some actors that don’t act very good – but not as alarming as other B movies. As with Saints and Soldiers, I recommend this movie to all people interested in WWII.
I have been watching some World War Two B-movies lately in a desperate hope to find something good and inspiring! After seeing all this crap I need to write a post to warn you all about this shitty movies.

CROSS ROADS
This is a french movie with french actors speaking french but should suppose to be american soldiers!? Then I really don’t need to say anymore. But I do so anyway. The actors are really bad, the script is pathetic, the action is ridiculous. The movie only uses a few actors, and that didn’t have to be a problem, but it is actually. In a stupid hope to trick the viewer to belive that a big battle is going on the actors keep referring to the division, and when you later see “the division” it isn’t more than a handful of men and a jeep. You see a few vehicles a couple of times and even this feels bad because it is obvious that the vehicle’s has been borrowed by collectors that haven’t agreed on making them look like being in a war, they shine as they have just rolled out of a factory. The most stupid of all scenes is one where the General talk to “the division”. Some old fart that have been dragged out of his grave and put into a uniform that is too big. The soldiers “Yihaaa” in the end of the speech made me laugh so hard… Watch the scene here:
The movie claims to be based on actual events… I don’t know what events they mean. The event we call World War Two?
Give a 5th grade class a few 100 bucks and a video camera and the chances are quit high they make a better and more realistic movie!

THE FALLEN
Oh boy… What can I say…
Late war Italy. One italian squad joins some german troops that awaits a US attack. You follow soldiers from all three sides. It is a US, Italian and German co-production and both the german and US actors are very bad, many are too old and fat. The italian actors, I must say, are much better, they actually give the impression of being as bad soldiers as they were in real-life. Lot’s of stupid things going on all the time. Worst of all is is when the US soldiers that we follow comes to a italian farm where a german spy lives side by side with the italian family. The US soldiers don’t discover his true identity, and now you expects something to happen, some tense moments with sneaky murders or some kind of ambushes – but nothing happens. At some few moments this feels like a real movie, mostly when showing the lazy irritating italian soldiers, but then again something really stupid happens.

BROTHER’S WAR
If this movie is a realistic movie – then Tarrantino’s Inglorious Basterds is a documentary.
But nevertheless, some wannabes has really done their best to make a move that some weird people call realistic. To that I can only say that this movie fails in every aspect. The plot is so stupid that someone involved deserves to be shot. Some of the actors can act at a level that would be OK in a porn movie, the rest are not acting at all – just moving around in uniforms saying stupid things. There are some 3D effects in the movie, a few of them almost works, especially short clips with aeroplanes flying over the battlefield. But all 3D scenes have frame drops which make them stand out in a bad way, and most of them looks like something from a 10 year old computer game. Worst thing is that most of the 3D scenes are so simple that they would be a lot easier to make the traditional way with a camera and some movie props. In many scenes the quality are very bad, I don’t know if it is shot with a Cell phone or if the picture is upscaled like 400%. In a dumb and really stupid way the plot let a german captain, an english major and later on a polish nurse, all trapped behind the russian lines, help each other finding the US frontline. It is very important they do so because the english officer carries a secret that could, if revealed, alter the course of war (LOL). The writers, that probably get a hard on thinking of the “what if” USA and the English joined Nazi-Germany to fight the russians, must have been on crack when they came up with the idea to also mix in some free-mason mysteries into the already stupid plot. Lots of other laughable and dumb things happens – and in the end one russian officer that earlier has been killed suddenly appears out of nowhere with a sniper riffle and kills one of the three – guess who he kill!?

THE BIG RED ONE
What is worse than a b-war-movie? An “old” b-war-movie!!!
As in lots of other old WWII movies, the movie makers didn’t care if the german tanks was actually german tanks. T34’s has been used as Panzer 4’s and so on, but this movie does worse than anything I have seen before as all the german tanks are Shermans with painted balkenkreuz on them. All the actors act like bad actors did in old movies. For your own good – keep away from this one…
